Jim Carrey Criticized for Dramatic Twitter Exit
(NewsSpace.com) – Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter has been interesting. Day after day, either the mogul himself or someone equally famous finds some reason to keep Twitter’s restructuring at or near the top of the news cycle. The latest comes from actor and comedian Jim Carrey, who announced his departure from the platform and caused the latest round of social media fireworks.
On November 29, Carrey told his nearly 19 million followers he was leaving Twitter — on Twitter. He posted the notice along with a video many found bizarre, along with a message of love for his fans. The account remains active without activity since the post.
I’m leaving Twitter, but 1st here’s a cartoon I made with my friend Jimmy Hayward. It’s based on my painting of a crazy old Lighthouse Keeper, standing naked in a storm, summoning the angels and shining his lamp to guide us through a treacherous night. I love you all so much! ;^j pic.twitter.com/Cqmp74A87r

The video, which has more than 4 million views, depicts a cartoon man without a shirt on in front of a lighthouse singing a folk song. The meaning behind the message, whatever Carrey intended that to be, was lost to many, who instead ridiculed the famous funny man for the drama.
Jimmy Failla, host of “Fox Across America,” sniped at Carrey’s departure, joking that he left comedy decades ago:
Jim Carrey just announced he’s leaving Twitter. It’s only fair since he left comedy 20 years ago.

Other public personalities poking fun at the “Ace Ventura” star include podcaster Steven Crowder, who called the video weird and credited Musk-era Twitter with doing in “another virtue-signaling celeb.”
