(NewsSpace.com) – On April 8, 1985, a skeleton was found alongside highway I-195 in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. Although the remains were difficult to identify at the time, authorities determined they were those of a male, and the manner of death appeared to be a homicide. Now, nearly 40 years later, there’s been a break in the case.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office identified the man, thanks to genetic testing carried out by the FBI and a private lab. The skeleton belongs to Keith Olson, of Cranston, Rhode Island, who went missing in April 1981. He was only 27 at the time of his disappearance.
The circumstances surrounding Olson’s death are unknown, but authorities have pieced together a story from the details of the man’s life. At the time of his disappearance, he was dating a woman and reportedly experiencing “friction” with her ex-boyfriend, John Broccoli, according to the DA’s office.
The office also revealed that ex-boyfriend Broccoli made “cryptic statements” to the woman around that time, indicating he was involved in an incident with Olsen shortly before the latter’s disappearance. A witness said the victim had been escorted out of his apartment by two men on April 15. That was the last time he was seen alive.
Now, investigators are seeking answers to how Olson died and have turned to the public for help. The DA’s office said “police have strong reason to believe that the crime was committed by at least two people,” which suggests that multiple leads are still waiting to be found.

Unfortunately, Broccoli – who went by the fictional “Godfather” character’s name, Michael Corleone – died in 2019 at the age of 63, and thus is unable to provide much needed answers in this case.
