To-Go Food Recall Issued Over Possible Listeria Contamination

Companies instill the highest safeguards to ensure this doesn’t happen, but it’s not foolproof. The US Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recently issued a notice about a popular food item produced by Jen’s Breakfast Burritos LLC.

On Sunday, March 10, the FSIS alerted the public to the fact that ready-to-eat breakfast burritos from the company could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause severe illness in some. The agency learned about the issue during routine testing. The recall included around 144 pounds of products, including

7-oz individual packages of “Seasoned Pork Breakfast Burrito,” lot code 060-3
7-oz individual packages of “Ham Breakfast Burrito,” lot code 060-2
7-oz individual packages of “Smoked Bacon Breakfast Burrito,” lot code 060-1

The products are packaged in yellow wax paper, with a white label and red or yellow writing, containing the USDA inspection mark bearing the establishment number “EST. 1826.” The burritos were shipped to “to-go” kiosks located in the state of Washington. They were produced on February 29, 2024, and are fully cooked.

Those who have the products should return them to the place of purchase or toss them out, they are advised not to consume them. To date, there have been no adverse reaction reports.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis in people, a serious infection that can cause flu-like symptoms, fever, muscle aches, loss of balance, confusion, and gastrointestinal symptoms. It primarily affects those with fragile immune systems, such as the elderly and infants, as well as pregnant women.

Those who experience these symptoms should contact a healthcare provider. Most people recover with antibiotics, though some infections have been known to be fatal in those with compromised immune systems.
