Peter Navarro Receives Ovation at the RNC After Arriving From Federal Prison

(NewsSpace.com) – Peter Navarro, an American economist and former Director of the United States Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy under the Trump Administration, was convicted of contempt of Congress and sentenced to four months in prison. He was recently released and made his way straight to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for the Republican National Convention (RNC), where he was welcomed with open arms.

On Wednesday, July 17, Peter Navarro was released from a federal prison in Miami after serving out his sentence. Hours later, he was at the RNC, where he received a hero’s welcome. For more than a minute, the crowd stood on its feet, cheering for Navarro. Navarro had been charged with contempt of Congress after he failed to provide documents and testimony to the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.

Speaking to attendees, Navarro warned them of political persecution, saying that if Biden’s “department of injustice” can go after him, they will also go after Republicans. He told them that he “went to prison so [they] won’t have to” and that he was their “wake-up call.” Navarro also said it’s important to “control our government,” or the alternative is the “government will control us.”

At the RNC Convention, Donald Trump formally accepted the Republican nominee and then gave a lengthy speech. Earlier this week, he named Senator JD Vance (R-OH) as his chosen running mate; Vance formally accepted a few days later. Trump also spoke out about the assassination attempt he survived just a few days ago in Butler, Pennsylvania. He was speaking to the crowd when suddenly, he grabbed his ear and then ducked to the ground.

The Secret Service has come under fire for its failure to properly secure the area. The would-be assassin managed to climb up on the roof of a structure outside the established safety perimeter.
