Rapper Declyn Lauper Dropped The Name Of His Superstar Mother During His Arrest

(NewsSpace.com) – Cyndi Lauper is perhaps one of the most iconic singers to come out in the 1980s. She made her debut in 1983 and went on to sell millions of records. She was also a singer who benefited from the early days of Music Television (MTV). Lauper had one child, a son, Declyn ‘Dex’ Lauper, who followed in her musical footsteps. However, he’s also been in trouble with the law, and in his most recent skirmish, he name-dropped his famous mom.

Dex Lauper was recently arrested in Harlem following a shooting incident in which one of his friends was shot in the leg. According to court documents obtained by the New York Post, Lauper mentioned his mother while in custody and talked about her trademark hit song from 1983, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” making sure officers knew who she was. He was booked on gun possession charges.

During his detainment, Lauper also reportedly bragged about his wealth and said his friend, who was shot, took the bullet for him because he had paid his legal fees. Lauper wasn’t in jail long; his father, actor David Thornton, bailed him out, paying $20,000 for his release.

This isn’t the first time that Lauper has been in trouble with the law. In May, a former girlfriend filed a lawsuit in a Manhattan court, accusing him of allegedly sexually assaulting her at his apartment in 2020. Identified only as Jane Doe, she claims he held her down and forced her to give him oral sex, after which she panicked and “felt [her] life was in danger.”

The famous musician’s son is also facing a potential eviction from his New York City apartment after a slew of complaints were filed against him for excessive noise and smoking weed, in violation of the lease terms. He was also previously arrested for theft.
