The victim was discovered with at least one gunshot wound and was immediately taken to a hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses described seeing the shooter, who was wearing a gray hoodie and a blue medical-style mask, walk around a building, enter the street, and begin shooting at the victim before fleeing the scene.

Newport News Mayor Phillip Jones, along with City Council members John Eley and Tina Vick, expressed their condolences and encouraged the community to support the police investigation.
