Democrats Will Not Help MTG To Unseat Mike Johnson, Says One Lawmaker

(NewsSpace.com) – House Republicans have had a hard time over the past several months with their leadership. In December, they ousted former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) after he worked with Democrats to pass appropriations bills. It took a few weeks before Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) was elected, and now he too is facing expulsion. However, one lawmaker has gone on record saying that he and his colleagues will not help the GOP oust Johnson.

In late March, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) filed a motion to vacate, a move she equated to a warning rather than a threat to actually oust the speaker. However, when the House passed the recent $1.2 trillion spending bill, GOP Reps. Thomas Massie (KY) and Paul Gosar (AZ) joined Greene in expressing their displeasure and plans to move forward with action.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) went on record during an interview on MSNBC’s “The Weekend,” saying, “There is just no way Democrats are going to let” Greene have a “powerful moment” such as removing a speaker. He went on to say they wouldn’t even “let her name a post office.” However, he did note that he is counting and waiting on Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) to lead the way, and most Democrats feel the same.

House Democrats haven’t committed to saving Johnson should Greene move forward with the motion to vacate and call it for a vote, but they’ve also remained steadfast in their desire not to see it happen and have the House devolve into chaos again.

Most Democrats are likely to align with Johnson because he worked with them across the aisle to pass Ukraine aid. They also have expressed disdain for Greene, who has been a controversial figure in Congress, to say the least. Moskowitz regularly trolls her in Congress, including introducing two foreign aid amendments, one of which called for her appointment as “Vladimir Putin’s Special Envoy to the United States Congress.”
