Fundraiser for Woman Killed During Chiefs Super Bowl Parade Gets Massive Donation From Taylor Swift

(NewsSpace.com) – On Sunday, February 11, the Kansas City Chiefs toppled the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII in what proved to be a very close game. The following Wednesday, the team held a celebratory rally and parade as is customary for winners. Sadly, gunfire erupted at the event. One woman died and more than 20 others suffered injuries Pop star Taylor Swift donated a massive sum to the deceased’s family. Others have contributed as well.

The evening of the shooting, radio station KKFI confirmed that one of its disc jockeys, DJ Lisa Lopez, who hosted “Taste of Tejano,” died in the mass shooting. One of her family members set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to “help provide vital financial support to her family” as they coped with her loss.

The goal was set at $75,000, but by Monday, February 19, it had exceeded $350,000. The top donor was none other than Taylor Swift, who is well-known for being generous. She donated $100,000 and sent the family a message with the funds, “Sending my deepest sympathies and condolences in the wake of your devastating loss.” Her donations alone put the family past its goal.

Many of the injured victims in the shooting were children. The Reyes family had two little girls who were both injured while celebrating with their family during the rally. Travis Kelce, Swift’s partner, made two donations totaling $100,000 through his foundation, Eighty-Seven Running. That fundraiser has also exceeded its goal and as of the time of writing was nearing $200,000.

Other members on the team offered to help in the aftermath, as well. Marquez Valdez-Scantling, a wide receiver on the Chiefs, posted on X, formerly Twitter, asking for people to help him get in touch with any of the injured children and families. He expressed the desire to “make sure they’re doing ok,” but also wanted to “get them some stuff from the team to help with the recovery.”
