IDF Claims To Have Killed 12 Hamas Operatives Hiding At A School

(NewsSpace.com) – Israel has been relentless in its pursuit of Hamas, with the sole mission of eradicating the militant group. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have carried out multiple operations to achieve the goal. As of late, it has been attacking schools, and it was recently claimed that one such attack killed 12 Hamas operatives hiding within.

The Attack Details

The attack in question took place on Sunday, July 14, in Nuseirat, a Palestinian refugee camp in Gaza. The target was the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA)-affiliated Abu Oraiban School, which was hit with an airstrike. The IDF said the mission was successful because it killed a dozen Hamas operatives. According to military officials, it had been carefully planned out once they discovered that the terrorists were hiding among the civilian population at the site. Israel also did not provide proof of its claims but called on Hamas’ history of using civilians as a shield.

In a statement, the IDF said, “The building was used for terrorists as a hiding place and as an active operational location from which [they] planned and carried out terrorist operations against our forces.” It also noted it took precautions to avoid civilian deaths, “including the use of aerial surveillance, precise munitions, and additional intelligence.” Hamas reported that 17 died and another 26 were injured, but it does not distinguish between its members and civilians when updating statistics. The IDF said it was looking into those reports.

Multiple Attacks on Schools Kill Dozens

This isn’t the first time the IDF has targeted a school. In fact, there have been several attacks in July alone. That has resulted in dozens of injuries and deaths. In May and June, schools in Nuseirat were struck, though it’s not clear if either one of those targeted was the same one that was attacked on Sunday. In June, approximately 30 people died, and in May, 10 were killed.

The UNRWA runs several schools that have since doubled as shelters as millions of Palestinians have been displaced. The organization has also been called into scrutiny as it came to light that several members were part of the initial attack on October 7.

Israel has shown no signs of letting up, despite calls from around the world to do so. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also changed flight plans for his upcoming trip to the United States to avoid arrests should the International Criminal Court approve the arrest warrant recommendations for him and his Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for carrying out alleged war crimes.
