(NewsSpace.com) – The 2024 presidential election is less than four months away. The candidates—President Joe Biden and his predecessor, Donald Trump—are pretty much locked in at this point, barring any major developments. However, following a dismal showing at the first debate in late June, there have been serious concerns as to whether Biden can handle another term. Now, one expert is saying the country needs a reliable leader.
Former national security official Gen. Keith Kellogg, who worked for former Vice President Mike Pence, appeared on “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday, July 9. Speaking with Peter Doocy, Kellogg said that the US needs a president who can make split-second decisions, no matter the time of day. He referenced the time of the Federalist Papers, when historical figureheads were forming the Constitution, and noted how Alexander Hamilton, the first US Treasury secretary, said that a leader needs to have “intellectual energy and physical energy.”
Kellogg noted there were several times when they had to wake Trump up in the middle of the night, and he was always quick to respond. One of those wake-ups involved making a decision on Qasem Soleimani, a high-ranking Iranian military officer. He said that was a “quick decision” demonstrated by a US leader because they “got an answer that was on the 1st of January 2020. On the 3rd of January 2020, Soleimani was dead.” He questioned whether Biden was really able to handle that kind of pressure and workload moving forward.
It’s not just the Right that’s concerned about Biden serving another four years. His own party has expressed increasing doubt that he’s up to the job. Some high-ranking congressional lawmakers have also called for him to step down and let someone else capable take up the campaign. However, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made it clear earlier this month that the president is “absolutely not” considering abandoning his campaign and will be on the ticket come November 5.
