(NewsSpace.com) – Social media is one of those controversial subjects, with many asking whether it causes more harm than good. The platforms—Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, X, and others—are useful in a lot of ways, including helping to track down a killer. One father, whose teenage son was murdered in Texas, used TikTok videos to nail down a suspect.
Louis Carlos “Carlos” Laguna Jr., 19, was fatally shot after leaving a party and concert in North Fort Worth, Texas, in November 2023. He and his friends had a verbal encounter with another group of men, but all seemingly went their own way. However, before Laguna and his friends had the chance to leave, someone fired a gun at them. One bullet struck the teen in the head. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Detectives on the case spoke with Laguna’s father, Luis Carlos Laguna Sr., and told him they were working on finding a suspect, but it could “be a while” since the party took place in a remote location and there were no cameras around to capture the crime.
After days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, Mr. Laguna took matters into his own hands. He began creating TikTok videos, where he talked about his son and showed everyone who watched how charming and loving the teen was. His main goal, he said in an interview with Fox News, is that he wants “people to be able to relate to him, to see that he truly didn’t deserve this.” He urged anyone who knew anything to go to the police and help bring his son’s killer to justice.
Eventually, the videos paid off. Someone who watched one of the clips had information that helped the police. They were able to use this information to take 20-year-old Martin Ramirez-Lopez into custody. He has since been charged with murder and is in the county jail on a $500,000 bond.
